Texas Rangers | Director, Partnerships | Arlington, TX


Background

In 1961, a new American League expansion team called the Washington Senators was formed. For ten years they stayed in Washington, but after the 1971 season the franchise decided to relocate. They moved to Arlington, Texas, where they have since been known as the Texas Rangers. The Texas Rangers have seen success since their arrival to the Lone Star State, boasting eight playoff appearances (five in the last decade) and having won the American League pennant in 2010 and 2011. Baseball Hall of Famers such as Nolan Ryan, Bert Blyleven, Goose Gossage, Whitey Herzog and Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez plied their trade for the Rangers since they moved to Arlington. The Rangers currently play at Globe Life Park in Arlington, their home since they moved out of Arlington Stadium after the 1993 season. They are set to move into the new, state of the art Globe Life Field in 2020. 

Globe Life Field will feature a retractable roof and air conditioning to protect fans and players from the sweltering Texas sun and torrential rains. The roof is easily retractable and partially transparent, which allows fans to “enjoy outdoor ambience in air-conditioned comfort”. It will also be a part of the Texas Live! complex, which features restaurant and entertainment options and the flagship Live by Loews hotel. The $1.1 billion, 1.7 million square foot project will be just across the street south of the current stadium. With a new stadium, there is a plethora of inventory to be sold and lots of new partners that want to get involved.

Position Summary

The Director, Partnerships will be a key performer developing and selling integrated partnership programs including signage, radio, print, digital, intellectual property, tickets/suites, Foundation programs and promotional rights for the Texas Rangers Baseball Club. This person will be tasked with generating new business revenue by developing partnerships with local, national and international companies. This is a new business development, sales-focused position designed for an experienced individual contributor. The position will be tasked with filling valuable categories for Globe Life Field, Texas Live!, and the Texas Rangers. This person will be tasked with generating leads through networking and research, developing new business, creating renewal proposals, conducting client presentations, managing fulfillment costs and negotiating contracts to meet and exceed annual revenue goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prospect potential partners to establish new business revenue for the Texas Rangers and Texas Live! entertainment development and sell partnership programs to increase revenue, tickets sales, suite sales and heighten awareness of the Texas Rangers.

  • Develop mutually beneficial partnership proposals based on potential sponsors’ marketing and advertising objectives.

  • Aggressively attack the market, via phone calls, in-person meetings, and other methods.

  • Strategically find and target possible clients and ensure inventory is designed towards synergy.

  • Work closely with the Client Service team to serve as liaison between partners and internal departments of the company to fulfill contractual obligations.

  • Maintain an active schedule of sponsorship prospect appointments and meetings focused on selling Texas Rangers & Texas Live! partnership opportunities.

  • Review industry trends to ensure best practices are utilized.

  • Operate data and utilize systems to ensure accurate and insightful sales process recordkeeping.

  • Collaborate with and entertain current and prospective partners at Texas Rangers games and events.

  • Effectively present proposals to partners and potential partners.

Qualifications, Skills and Education Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of sales experience with a proven track record in selling team assets.

  • Broad knowledge and experience in sports marketing, media, promotion, hospitality and partnership sales.

  • Willingness to learn, grow, and collaborate both as an individual and in the team environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills to C-level executives.

  • Proven presentation, negotiation and closing skills.

  • Experience selling high six-figure and/or seven-figure integrated partnerships.

  • Must be creative, well-organized, possess a strong work ethic and a desire and willingness to learn.

  • Must be an aggressive, self-motivated team player that can focus on individual and team revenue goals.

  • Must have superb attention to detail.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, weekend & holidays.
