Pittsburgh Penguins | Director, Business Analytics | Pittsburgh, PA
Founded in 1967 as one of the NHL's first expansion teams during the league’s original expansion from six teams to twelve, the Pittsburgh Penguins are among the most notable franchises in all professional sports. The Penguins have appeared in the Stanley Cup Final six times and have won the Stanley Cup five times, including back-to-back championships in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. The Penguins were the first back-to-back champions since the 1997 and 1998 seasons, and the first ever team since the NHL Salary Cap was implemented. With an NHL record 12 postseason appearances in a row, the Penguins are a proven powerhouse.
In 1999, the team was purchased and brought out of bankruptcy by former Penguins superstar, Mario Lemieux and Ronald Burkle, who is the co-founder of The Yucaipa Companies. Under the leadership Lemieux and Burkle, the Penguins have become one of the premier franchises in the NHL in recent history. Offering gorgeous views of the Pittsburgh skyline and in the shadow of the legendary Mellon Arena, the Penguins opened PPG Paints Arena in 2010, hosting one of the best home ice advantages in the league.
In the offseason of 2005, the Penguins had control of the number one overall selection in the NHL draft. With the pick of star center Sidney Crosby, the team’s success on the ice has not looked back since. With back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in 2016 and 2017, the team continues to prove to be among the elite in the National Hockey League and a perennial threat for a deep playoff run to the Cup.
Between the success on the ice and the community’s strong backing of their professional hockey team, the franchise leads the way in fan relations, ticket sales, corporate sales, marketing, community and youth engagement, and fan experience in the National Hockey League.
