Background

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) is the newest MLS soccer club serving the greater Los Angeles area. Located in the heart of Los Angeles and having opened in April 2018, BOCS is a brand-new sports and entertainment venue that plays home to Major League Soccer games, concerts, and special events. LAFC went an impressive 16-9-9 in their first MLS season, good for fifth place in the conference and a spot in the playoffs. LAFC and BOCS also ranked among the leaders in average fan attendance. The stadium offers a multitude of premium event spaces and boasts a total capacity of 23,500. Furthermore, the venue is set to host over 150 events in 2019.

Since opening in April 2018, BOCS has brought in more than 425,000 people to events, including global brands such as iHeart Radio Wango Tango, Epic Games’ Fortnite Celebrity Pro-Am tournament, the first-ever HBO Insecure Fest, three U.S. Open Cup games, an open media workout ahead of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin fight, and the annual Adobe Max, culminating with a concert by Beck. In December 2018, the stadium hosted the Rolling Loud festival, with more than 50,000 people per day expected to attend the event, billed as the world’s biggest hip-hop festival. The stadium is set to host Iron Maiden’s “Legacy Of The Beast Tour” on September 14, with many more announcements coming soon.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the SVP, Controller and working closely with Event Booking, the Director of Venue Accounting (the “Director”) will be a seasoned operating accountant who has hands-on experience in designing and operating event accounting and management systems for a mix of concerts, music festivals, sporting events as well as special and private events. The Director will be both technically trained and fluent in the live entertainment and venue business, with superior experience in planning, projecting, reporting, and event settlement. The Director will have daily interaction with a multitude of departments including venue operations, marketing, special event sales and a particularly close partnership with booking. The Director will also interact with team accounting and finance to insure accurate GAAP reporting of the division’s results.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all accounting processes for Banc of California Stadium and events including revenue and AR, expenses and AP, collections, cash management, subsidiary ledgers, operating expense, and vendor approvals.

  • Responsible for financial analyses for all contracts related to events, vendors, and subcontractors and liaises with counterparts at these entities as needed.

  • Prepare, review, and conduct pre-settlements, event settlements and flash reporting.

  • Partner with head of ticket operations to reconcile ticketing report to bank receipts, record sales and record journal entries related to events.

  • Review and execute all checks, deposits, daily cash receipts, and disbursements.

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and other financial reports including monthly statements, annual budget and annual report in order to conduct monthly and annual close.

  • Analyze financial performance and trends of key performance indicators and recommend appropriate actions/changes in order to meet business goals.

  • Prepare, forecast, and report estimated future revenue and expenses.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure company financial objectives are met and in compliance with financial process and procedure.

  • Partner with team accounting and finance as requested and required.

Qualifications, Skills and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university required; CPA or Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is a plus.

  • 6-8 years of related experience at a major sports and entertainment venue.

  • Familiarity working with large concert promotion companies and Ticketmaster system is preferred.

  • Proficient in GAAP accounting and reporting and the use of appropriate accounting software with direct experience in building out and/or modifying the general ledger and requisite coding, infrastructure, and processes.

  • Ability to manage and create budgets, plans and accurate report results.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – both verbal and written.
