Rice University has named a new Football Head Coach: former Stanford Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator Mike Bloomgren.
In a statement, Owls Director of Athletics Joe Karlgaard said of the hire, “The football program is important to our university and this community. Mike Bloomgren is a bright, driven, and relentless coach who fits perfectly with our vision for championships on the field, scholarship in the classroom, and service to others.”
Prior to joining Stanford in 2011, Bloomgren held coaching positions with the New York Jets, Delta State, Catawba College, and Alabama. In a statement, he spoke of the importance of student-athlete success both on the field and in the classroom. “In my seven years at Stanford, I have seen firsthand how elite college athletics and academics can not only coexist, but thrive together,” said Bloomgren. “I want to create an environment at Rice where every player’s dreams are realized on and off the field.”
Rice’s hire of Bloomgreen concludes a busy fortnight for Turnkey, during which the firm also closed NCAA head football coach searches at Nebraska and Ole Miss.
